Where do I stand?
Examine yourself with the self-check. What is important to you in supporting your child's vocational orientation?

Why do a self-check?
It is not easy for young people to develop career aspirations. As a parent or guardian, you can provide valuable support. You can offer support and advice, share your own experiences, and actively help with problems.
Use the self-check to evaluate how you are supporting your child's career choices. You will receive feedback on the key areas of your current support. You will also receive suggestions on how to improve your support.
What is covered?
There are four areas of parental support:

Emotional support
How much appreciation, trust, and sympathy do you give your child?

Instrumental support
How do you help your child find an internship or write a job application?

Factual support
How well do you know the world of work and can you help with information?

Needs-based support
How do you support and encourage your child to make his or her own career choices?
How does the self-check work?
The self-check consists of 26 statements. For each statement, select the answer that most closely matches your opinion. To get started, click "Start the self-check" below. When you are finished, click "Evaluate self-check". Please note: You must answer all questions in order to receive a score.
The tool is based on a scientific model by Landgraf, A./Dietrich, J./Bührmann, T./Kracke, B. (2024): Parental skills to support career choice.
