How am I doing?
Take a look at yourself with the self-check.
What is important to you when it comes to supporting your child in relation to career orientation?
Why complete a self-check?
Are you wondering how to support your child?
Young people often find it difficult to develop career aspirations.
As parents and guardians, you can provide support, share your experiences, give advice and help actively.
The self-check enables you to assess how you are supporting your child in choosing a career. You will then receive feedback on the support you are currently giving.
You will also get tips on how you can improve your support.
What kind of support does this relate to?
A distinction is made between four areas:

Emotional support
how is your relationship with your child? What role do appreciation, trust and sympathy play?

Instrumental support
how do you support your child, for example when they are looking for an internship or writing an application?

Objective support
how well do you know the world of work? Can you provide the necessary information?

Needs-based support
how do you support and encourage your child to decide on a career independently?
How does the self-check work?
The self-check consists of 26 statements. For each statement, select the answer that best applies to you.
The tool is based on an academic model created by Landgraf, A./Dietrich, J./Bührmann, T./Kracke, B. (2024): Elterliche Berufswahlbegleitungskompetenz. https://psycharchives.org/en/item/06940b38-c796-41e3-b7aa-a5b5e22122a1
The tool is a component in and the result of various projects on parental involvement as part of the Education Chains initiative, in particular the #parentsonboard project.
