How do I support my child?
Career orientation needs strong parents!
This site aims to provide guidance on how you can accompany your child along their career pathway.
The Model of Parental support for Career Choice
The model shows how you can actively support your child on their route to a career.
Depending on where your child is in the career orientation process, they will need different forms of support from you.
There are four forms of support:

Emotional support
being there for your child with all your heart!

Instrumental support
providing active help!

Objective support
maintaining a clear focus on the matter at hand!

Needs-based support
putting your child’s interests and goals at the centre of what you do!
If you want to know more about yourself, take the self-check! How am I doing?
The model is based on extensive surveys of young people and parents by the working groups led by Prof. Thorsten Bührmann (Medical School Hamburg), Prof. Julia Dietrich (Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt) and Prof. Bärbel Kracke (Friedrich Schiller University Jena).
You can find out more about the academic background to the model in this article.
